At Avenue Club, we aim to honor the past as much as we strive to reinvent it
The first supper club in the US was established in the 1920s in Beverly Hills by Milwaukee native Lawrence Frank. In their heyday in the ‘50s and ‘60s, supper clubs were social hubs; comfortable places to gather and enjoy great food, drinks and company. Traditionally supper clubs were considered a destination where patrons would spend the entire night, from cocktail hour to after-dinner ice cream drinks. We salute that supper club spirit by serving up creative variations of classic food and drinks in an updated mid-century modern setting.
Cocktail culture at The Bubble Up Bar
The Bubble Up Bar is proprietor Joey Connaughty’s nod to supper club heritage, an attached swanky lounge area with dim lighting, an oversized bar, cushy bar stools, cozy horseshoe booths and candlelight. All of the Avenue Club’s drinks are prepared at the Bubble Up Bar which features an extensive lineup of innovative cocktails that are muddled, shaken and stirred with a little old school flair by our knowledgeable staff. Try a traditional Wisconsin-style brandy Old Fashioned made the traditional “Avenue” way, or one of the more unique cocktails like the New York Sour, South Side on the East Side, or our Tikis on Tap, a rotation of kegged tiki cocktails. We also have a number of throwback ice cream drinks to choose from made with Sassy Cow Creamery ice cream.
Comfortable spaces and creative seating options for any time of the day
Avenue Club is a swanky spot for a big night out on the town as much as it’s a great option for business lunches, casual weekday dinners, brunch with family and friends, and happy hour gatherings. Our space is filled with nostalgic touches like flagstone walls, a retro Malm fireplace, sputnik-style lights and cushy booths. In addition to the large attached Bubble Up Bar room, we have a “mini bar” in the dining room that has 6 seats, a television, and laptop outlets.
We’re open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week, and serve brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am - 3 pm. We happily accept reservations for all meal periods, and encourage reservations for parties of 5 or more. We do limit our reservations so that we can also accommodate walk-in guests. Our full menu is served at both of our bars. We have a spacious attached parking lot for our guests, so dining with us is quick and convenient if you need it to be. Get in-and-out for a weekday lunch or dinner before a UW sporting event, or stay all night, just like diners did at supper clubs of the past.
